Comenge Philosophy
Bodegas Comenge started in 1999, the year in which Jaime Comenge, the founder, seduced by the beauty of the valley, decided to settle in Curiel de Duero. The name of the winery is in honor of his father, D. Miguel Comenge, author of the influential text book “La Vid y los Vinos Españoles”, published in 1942. This book is a reference book used in universities.
The winery is located in Valle del Cuco, between rivers, vineyards and castles. It was eatablished here in order to enjoy a unique environment, away from the noise and haste, to savor the nuances of the horizon; a place to pamper a wine in detail and for all those seeking delve into the culture of wine from the Ribera del Duero, enjoying an unrivaled balcony over the river Duero and its vineyards.
Purposly ignoring trends, the objective of Bodegas Comenge is to make a great wine, distinguished, personal, and different from the rest, a complex wine that combines power, elegance, character, smoothness, and flavor, a wine that keeps the imprint of its terroir, its climate, and the variety Tempranillo. At Bodegas Comenge we put care into every minute detail, working with small productions of grapes, producing estate wines, reflecting the true character of our land. We produce few bottles, but always of the highest quality.
The characteristics of each vineyard and the expression of each variety dictate how long each item should remain in oak. Our different estates define the different wines, individually seeking excellence in each. Each year is different, leading to different characters that still maintain, however, the uniqueness of our wines.
