The winery is more than just a physical place

It is the point where everything comes together:

Bodegas Comenge, where wine brings us together

A story of decision, care, and consistency over time.
Everything began with a way of looking at the land and understanding what it means to share.

- Curiel de Duero

Curiel de Duero:
the terroir of Comenge wines

The winery is located in Curiel de Duero, a place with centuries of history connected to wine. Here, the land and climate create an exceptional balance.

Its orientation encourages constant ventilation, which helps keep the vineyard naturally healthy and allows the grapes to ripen slowly. At the same time, the soil’s ability to retain water is essential during the warmer months, helping the plant find its own balance.

This is a place that is not transformed, but carefully cared for, so that it can continue giving life to new stories.

The landscape is shaped by slopes that give character to the vineyard, together with a climate marked by strong temperature differences. This forces life to adapt, deepen, and resist. It is precisely this demand that gives rise to wines with character, balance, and depth.

Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Albillo Mayor form the vineyard’s mosaic of varieties. The soil is shallow, with a limestone bedrock base. Its northeast orientation and altitude slow down the ripening cycle, giving us balanced grapes that bring freshness to our wines.

We have a new “old vineyard”: a beautiful plot planted beside the winery, where we have recovered the tradition of cultivating different grape varieties together. The plantation has been adapted to the topography of the land, while reserving spaces for the development of other plant species. This ancestral regenerative farming technique allows us to make the most of precious rainwater, improve soil fertility, and reduce erosion, creating an ideal space for the vines and a beautiful landscape for people.

New "Old Vineyard"

A process based on respect, time, and origin

Comenge wines are born from a terroir that expresses itself in every vintage. Our philosophy brings together vineyard work, innovation, and research in order to express the character of our vines in the purest possible way.

When Mr. Jaime Comenge founded the winery in 1999, he started from one clear idea: to respect the character and personality of the vineyard.

Our vineyard

Our vineyard is certified organic. Yields are low, and we maintain natural ground cover, encouraging a living environment. In this way, the vineyard becomes a diverse ecosystem that brings balance to the vine and cares for everything around it. Because wine begins here.

The harvest

The harvest is carried out by hand. It is the first gesture of care and selection. The grapes are collected in small boxes, preserving the integrity of each cluster. The proximity of the vineyards to the winery allows for fast transport, avoiding unnecessary exposure and keeping the grapes’ quality intact.

Grape reception

Once in the winery, the selection continues. First, the clusters are checked, and then each grape is inspected to ensure that only grapes in perfect condition continue through the process.

It is meticulous work, where experience and attention to detail make the difference. This is where much of the elegance and balance of our wines begins.

Fermentation

Each plot is vinified separately, respecting its identity. Fermentation is a living process in which the must is transformed into wine.To achieve this, we use different species of natural yeasts, exclusive to our landscape and selected from the vineyard. Research and high-level innovation are placed at the service of wine, faithfully and precisely expressing the character of each terroir. Here, rather than intervening, we accompany the process. Nothing foreign to our grapes interferes with fermentation.

Oak barrels

Oak ageing accompanies the wine without overpowering it. We seek for each barrel to contribute structure, complexity, and balance, while always respecting the identity of each plot and each vintage.Time does not disguise the wine; it refines it.

Bottle ageing

After its time in barrel, the wine continues its evolution in the bottle. During this period, the aromas integrate and the structure becomes more refined, giving rise to wines that are more balanced and expressive. It is a silent process, where time finishes shaping the wine.
